Meet Ron Klok

 Renovating the heart for life.

Ron Klok, MDiv, MAPPC

Registered Therapeutic Counsellor

Spiritual Director

The first thing you should know about me is that I am an ordinary human being who has gained a wide range of experience working with people in real-life settings. I’ve worked with carpenters, electricians, insulators, doctors, teachers, first responders, professors, pastors, university students, moms, and dads. I have a genuine interest in people and have cared for them in and through the most difficult situations and experiences.

The second thing you should know is that I have been engaged in my own therapeutic work since I was in my mid-twenties. I know what it’s like to be on the other side, so to speak.

My Background and Experience:

I grew up working with my dad, a home builder and contractor, and became a Red Seal certified carpenter in 1985. I still own and operate a finishing carpentry business. From there I went to university and seminary. I spent twenty years as a pastor in congregational ministry, walking with people through a wide range of human experience.

I completed a master’s degree in Pastoral Psychology and Counselling, and have been practicing as a professional counsellor since 2016. I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT), and a member of The Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA). As a member of these professional organizations, I adhere to a code of ethics and am required to engage in continuing education and supervision. I am also trained in EMDR, a leading intervention for trauma.

My Approach:

The “school” of psychology that I work out of is called psychodynamic psychotherapy, which is concerned with gaining insight into why certain things are not working, why we aren’t feeling or doing as well as we want, and how we can change.

I am exceptionally capable in helping people work through their difficulties in the context of faith and spirituality. I have a keen interest in spiritual practices and how they benefit and contribute to positive mental health outcomes.
